FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is crystallization?
It is a further procedure which is carried out on marble which has already been polished.
It gives a greater shine and makes the surface more hard-wearing and glossy, and it isn’t slippery.
Not suitable for external areas, balconies etc

It is a serious mistake to carry out crystallization of marble which was not first been rubbed and polished by a professional.

In homes or construction sites, do you work before or after painters?

We can work either before or after painters, because we work without dust and we do not dirty walls. The only exception is in staircases (stairwells) where we prefer to work before painting takes place.

How can I renovate the marble in my home while in residence?
The furniture is moved to one side, and the marble is worked on without disruption, mess or damage.
And most importantly, you won’t need to employ anyone to clean for you!

How should I look after the marble in my home?
After we have treated your marble, it should be cleaned using only water. For more thorough cleaning, use a soap based cleaning liquid, which should always be pH neutral. (alkaline pH>7,  acid pH<7,  neutral pH=7)
Attention! Never use commercial chemical cleaners or caustic liquids for any problems you may have with your marble. In case of doubt, seek the advice of a specialist.

Why should I choose marble flooring?

Greece is rich in marble deposits (in many different colours)

The material is affordable in constructions of a relatively low budget.

If the correct marble is chosen for each kind of use, and if it is laid by professionals, then you have a first class result which will last for decades, giving exceptional beauty to your home!

I detect a number of “holes” in my flooring.  This does not mean that the marble is not good, or that the owner is to blame. Marble rock also consists of additional mixed elements which are more sensitive to the passage of time.  Call us to carry our corrective work.

In some places the marble has come unstuck or has cracked (broken). This is usually the result of expansion as a result of temperatures which occur especially in external areas. We  create a seam, something important which was not done in older buildings. There are also other reasons such as the presence of dampness etc.

Is there extra protection for external marble? After rubbing or polishing, we carry out water-resistant procedures which we repeat after some years if necessary.

Can stains be removed from my marble? It depends on how the stains were caused, how long they have been there and what type of marble you have. If the stains have penetrated into the marble, you must weigh up the cost of carrying out the work of replacing the slab, with that of purchasing specialized products for the removal of the stains. There may also be “rust stains” which were not caused by external factors. These are caused by the chemical composition of certain types of marble, which also contain small quantities of iron (oxidization)   in addition to the basic component of asbestos.

Liquid spilled on the marble and it no longer shines in that spot.  Professional intervention is required in this case.

How can I treat the dampness I detect on my external marble?
The slabs must be insulated. We undertake this on roof-tops, balconies, external areas, using the existing marble slabs.
We insulate the surface without detracting from its beauty, even if the problem was caused by ice.
The carpet has stuck onto the marble
No problem, we remove the carpet and residual glue in order to rub the marble.
I have noticed dampness in the marble.
The client is obliged to tell us this before we begin working, because the marble remains dull, even after polishing, in individual places or in its entirety.
What is the difference between marble pieces and marble?
Marble pieces are also marble (irregular shapes), but are not cut into rectangles and are joined by means of cement.

Can I polish the marble myself?
No, the work can only be carried out by professionals with specialized materials and tools.

What marble should I choose for my lounge? Choose a hard marble which will endure heavy use and abrasion.
